CarolinaEast Foundation is proud to recognize Danny Jackson as the recipient of the 2010 Healthcare Award of Excellence. This award is given by the CarolinaEast Foundation is recognition of those who have made a significant contribution to healthcare in Craven, Jones or Pamlico Counties.

Danny Jackson was born and raised in Washington, North Carolina. After graduation from high school, Danny spent some time with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Danny and his wife Mildred came to New Bern in 1962. That same year, Danny was hired by the Craven County Hospital to be their Purchasing Agent. Danny became the Assistant Administrator of the hospital in 1974 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1982.

Danny oversaw the building of the New Bern Outpatient Surgery Center and served as its Administrator until his retirement. Danny wore many hats during his years working for the Hospital and the Surgery Center. He was often seen in the early years driving the ambulances. He was the type of man who would get in there and do whatever was needed to help his staff, from mopping floors to folding laundry. He enjoyed rolling up his sleeves and helping out in any way he could.

Danny’s work and personal ethics and his love of life for his fellow many inspired all of those that had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. Danny is best known for taking care of his employees. We are all very fortunate to have had Danny Jackson working for our healthcare community for all those years. He continues to help our community even in his “golden years”.
