DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM
CarolinaEast Foundation currently funds a free diabetes education clinic and program, called "Healthy Living Takes A Conscious Effort." This diabetes education program is funded through one of the named funds created by the Foundation. The program began in May 2005 and has provided free diabetes education classes for individuals with Type II diabetes and their families. The program offers a four-class series taught every week for one month.1. Class A: Learning to Live with Diabetes/Medications/Monitoring
2. Class B: Healthy Heart/Basics/Planning Meals
3. Class C: Exercise/Complications/Coping/Foot Care
Class instructors are Certified Diabetes Educators, qualified Registered Nurses and Registered Dieticians who have experience working with persons with diabetes. Successfully manage your diabetes with these free workshops. Download the brochure and a schedule of classes here.
The objectives of this program are to offer educational information to patients, family members and loved ones of patients with Type II diabetes. Patients will learn how to manage their diabetes and make healthy lifestyle choices that will enhance their quality of life while living with this disease. The program will also help individuals, families and loved ones of those with this disease learn how to provide better support while dealing and living with diabetes.
Patients, families and loved ones armed with this information, should have better health, increased longevity and better quality of lives and provide better support for those with diabetes.
