Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship is in honor of a man who made it his personal mission to "live strong." Joe was an exemplary Nurse and Executive Director of Surgical Services. He was employed 28 years at CarolinaEast Health System (formerly known as Craven Regional Medical Center). He was many things to many people. This scholarship is symbolic of the dedication he had for his family, his colleagues and his former patients.
Joe lived the LIVESTRONG concept his entire life. He was strong for himself, for the people he loved, and for all those in need. The people who loved him back are so grateful that his memory will live on with every Nursing student this scholarship assists. The Havelock Fire and Rescue Department presented the CarolinaEast Foundation with a check for $3,080 from their pink t-shirt fundraiser in October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Proceeds from the sale of the pink t-shirts with the fire department’s logo will help assist cancer patients living in the Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties with prescriptions, nutritional supplements and round trip transportation costs for their chemotherapy. CarolinaEast Medical Center Employee Campaign
The CarolinaEast Medical Center Employee Campaign is an annual fundraising event put on by the hospital employees each year to help raise money and support for Foundation's mission. This year's Employee Campaign theme was "Carnival of Caring". Foundation staff, hospital department managers, and hospital employees put on an old-fashioned "carnival", complete with cotton candy, candied apples, funnel cakes, games and prizes, and the must-have dunking booth, to "kick off" the fundraising campaign. Great food and fun was had by all. Money raised during the campaign goes to wherever the needs are greatest to help the Foundation fund unmet healthcare concerns in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.
Neuse River Bridge Run
The annual Neuse River Bridge Run (NRBR) is held on the third Saturday in October in historic downtown New Bern, North Carolina. Proceeds from Neuse River Bridge Run benefit the overall health of our communities through the following charities: CarolinaEast Foundation, Promise Place, Craven Arts Council & Gallery, Inc., Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina, MERCI Clinic, Inc., Religious Community Services of New Bern, Inc., and Twin Rivers YMCA. Visit the event website here.
Breakfast with Santa
CarolinaEast Foundation’s Breakfast with Santa and Festival of Trees is an annual fundraising event put on by the Foundation for the tri-county communities. The Festival starts with beautiful, professionally decorated Christmas trees on display for public viewing. The trees are then auctioned to raise money for the Foundation to use wherever the needs are greatest to provide help with unmet healthcare concerns in our tri-county communities. The remainder of the Festival is for the children and families from our surrounding communities and offers Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Stories with Mrs. Claus, and crafts and activities for the kids. To make a contribution by purchasing an ornament or light, please download our donor card here. Visit the Festival of Trees website.
Healthcare Award of Excellence
Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties are blessed with many talented physicians and medical staff who bring needed medical care and support to our local communities. These are the same health care providers who help our tri-county communities by offering screenings for cancer, diabetes or heart diseases, who volunteer in our local free clinics or schools, or who help raise funds for our local nonprofit health care organizations.
The Health Care Award of Excellence is given every other year to recognize those health care professionals who are exemplary, who make the extra effort and take the extra time to bring quality health care to all who are in need. Nominations for this award are submitted from our tri-county communities. The Health Care Award of Excellence is then presented at a community dinner designed to recognize and honor the recipients.
CarolinaEast Foundation was pleased to present the 2008 Health Care Award of Excellence to Nancy Alexander of MERCI Clinic. She represents a healthcare professional who exemplifies the best of the best.
